2-Methyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarbonitril is prepared in two main ways:
-Prepared by cyanation of 2-methyl -1H-imidazole. First, 2-methyl -1H-imidazole was reacted with silver oxide to form 2-methyl -1H-imidazole-4, 5-diol, and then the two hydroxyl groups on the diol molecule were replaced by cyanide by sodium cyanite to obtain the target product.
-Prepared by the cyanation reaction of 2-methyl-1H-imidazole-4, 5-dione. First, 2-methyl-1H-imidazole-4, 5-dione is reacted with thionyl chloride to generate the corresponding sulfoxide acyl derivative, and then the target product is obtained through the steps of thionyl chloride, cyanation and hydrolysis.
Regarding safety information, there are currently no clear toxicity data for 2-Methyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarbonitril. However, as an organic synthesis intermediate, it may be irritating and dangerous to the human body, so attention should be paid to protective measures during operation, such as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, ensuring adequate ventilation, and proper disposal of waste after use.
